Stephen Sondheim: Leading 20th Century composer's story so far (CD) released;

For the first time in his 50 years in show business, a most comprehensive 4CD box set encompassing the incredible career of Broadway's foremost living composer/lyricist, Stephen Sondheim has been compiled.

The 4 & 1/2 hours include no fewer than 33 previously unreleased songs, 12 tracks performed by Stephen Sondheim, pieces from 8 unproduced shows and films, and songs cut from Sondheim's Broadway hits: Company, Into The Woods, A Little Night Music and others. West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Sunday In The Park With George, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Follies, A Little Night Music and Passion - these are the highlights of "The Story So Far", which features 81 tracks, and includes selections from Sondheim's 15 Broadway shows, as well as songs from his film and TV scores. The box set also features photographs and original demos from Sondheim's personal archive. There are many rarities such as Evening Primrose and Saturday Night, which are available for the first time.
Performances are by such stars as Bernadette Peters, Madonna, Nathan Lane, Mandy Patinkin, Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Liza Minnelli and many others.
Most of the Songheim scores have been orchestrated and recorded in the most perfect manner by Paul Geminignani. He narrates his look at some of Sondheims most complicated songs in an interactive online presentation on the New York Times, Oct. 23rd
